Congratulations to this week’s Athletes of the Week and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

HIGH SHOOL

Daniel Mariscal, Long Beach Poly Baseball

It was a deuces wild game for Poly catcher Daniel Mariscal in a 4-1 win over Millikan last week, which kept Poly in first place. Mariscal had two doubles, two runs scored, caught two runners stealing, and added an RBI for good measure.

Naomi Kilson, Wilson Track

Rachel Glenn scored the most points for Wilson in their historic win over Poly last week to nab their first Moore League title in more than a decade, but those points were expected. The biggest point swing for the Bruins came from junior Naomi Kilson, who took second in the 100 and 200 to give the Bruins six big points in a two-point win.

Teilon Tufuga, Lakewood Volleyball

The BYU commit had five kills, a block, and an ace in the deciding fifth set at Wilson that kept Lakewood ahead of the rest of the Moore League with just one week of play remaining. Lakewood went up 2-0 then Wilson forced a fifth set, where Tufuga took over and sealed the win.

RACING

Alexander Rossi, Andretti Autosports

Alexander Rossi became the first driver to win back-to-back Grand Prixs of Long Beach in more than a decade, as his wire-to-wire win on Sunday in the 45th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach also made him just the eighth multiple-time champion in Long Beach.
