Long Beach Sports Calendar April 4-7

Find out where some of your favorite Long Beach teams are playing this weekend.

THURSDAY

High School Boys’ Golf, 2:30 p.m.

Moore League-leading Wilson is at Recreation Park 9 golf course today for a match with Cabrillo while Millikan and Poly battle for second place at El Dorado Golf Course. The third league match of the day is Lakewood hosting Jordan at Skylinks Golf Course.

Long Beach City College Baseball vs. El Camino, 2:30 p.m.

The Vikings are trying to extend their 10-game winning streak against El Camino this week, and this home game is sandwiched between two games at El Camino on Tuesday and Saturday. LBCC is 11-2 in conference with 12 games left in the regular season.

High School Boys’ Tennis, 3 p.m.

First-place Poly is back at home this afternoon to host Cabrillo while trying to build on its Moore League lead. In other action, Wilson is hosting Compton and Millikan is visiting Lakewood.

High School Softball, 3 p.m.

The Moore League championship could be decided tonight when Millikan hosts Lakewood at Mayfair Park at 7 p.m. tonight. The Rams could force a tie atop the standings with a win. The Lancers won the first meeting in walk off fashion last month thanks to some Millikan defensive miscues. Elsewhere, Poly is traveling to Cabrillo and Jordan is hosting Compton.

High School Boys’ Volleyball, 4 p.m.

The marquee match of the day is at Millikan where the Rams are hosting Lakewood in another Battle of the Blueprint installment. In other action, Wilson is hosting Compton while Jordan travels to Cabrillo.

FRIDAY

Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. UC San Diego, 7 p.m.

This is the second consecutive weekend that No. 2 LBSU is playing a home-and-home on consecutive days against a quality opponent. LBSU and UCSD will play again in San Diego at the same time on Saturday night. The Beach swept both of these Big West matches last year.

High School Baseball

The marquee Moore League doubleheader at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field for the week is today as Millikan faces Lakewood at 3:30 p.m. before first-place Poly takes on Wilson in the nightcap. This also marks the start of the second round of league play. When these four teams met last month, Poly and Millikan emerged as league frontrunners with big wins.

Long Beach State Dirtbags at No. 19 UC Irvine, 6 p.m.

Big West Conference action gets underway this weekend as the Dirtbags travel to Irvine for a weekend series. The Anteaters (18-5, 2-1) are ranked No. 19 in the nation. Junior Brandon Lewis leads the Big West with 33 RBIs, starting pitcher Trenton Denholm is tied for the conference lead with five wins, and closer Taylor Rashi leads the Big West with seven saves. The series continues at 6 p.m. on Saturday, and concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

High School Swimming, 3 p.m.

Today is the second to last full meet day for the Moore League as Wilson hosts Jordan, Poly travels to Lakewood and Millikan visits Cabrillo.

Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo vs. UC Davis, 7 p.m.

This is one of the most important weeks at home for No. 12 LBSU and it starts with a Big West battle against No. 11 UC Davis. UCD junior Chloe Robinson leads the conference with 35 assists and junior Kathleen Schafle is tops with 36 steals. The Beach also will face first-place No. 5 Hawaii at noon on Sunday.

Long Beach State Track & Field

The Beach will be at the Big West Challenge in Santa Barbara for this all-day event.

SATURDAY

Long Beach State Women’s Tennis vs. UC Davis, 10 a.m.

The Beach is in Northern California this weekend for two matches in two days. They will face the Aggies today in conference action, and then travel to Fresno State where they will take on the Bulldogs in nonconferece play.
