Millikan girls’ basketball used fantastic shooting from distance to take down Wilson on the road Wednesday night. The Rams (21-2, 8-1) take over sole possession of second place in the Moore League with this win and Lakewood’s loss at Poly.
Junior Lesley Garcia led Millikan with 15 points on five made 3-pointers while the Rams made a total of 11 shots from behind the arc. Four of the first six made field goals in the game were 3-pointers.
“This year has been all about how many shots we can get up,” Millikan coach Lorene Morgan said. “We’ve had our moments. This was a decent game for us shooting the ball.”
Millikan opened up an early lead with the long ball, and led 34-15 at halftime. Emily Newkirk scored 12 points for the Rams, and Ana Felemi chipped in 11 points.
Wilson (6-16, 4-6) was led by 15 points from Samiya Terry. The Bruins are currently tied with Compton for the fourth and final automatic playoff bid out of the Moore League. The tiebreaker is a playoff game scheduled for next Friday.
