HIGH SCHOOL

Sarah Santos, Long Beach Poly Soccer

Long Beach Poly junior Sarah Santos scored a thrilling game-winner against Wilson in a 3-2 win last week, putting it home in the 78th minute. The Jackrabbits’ come-from-behind win also featured an equalizer from Ania Cutler in the 72nd minute, and leaves Poly alone in first place.

Ava Bishop, Wilson Water Polo

Wilson’s Ava Bishop was key to the Bruins’ win over Poly at the Moore League showcase. Bishop had a hat trick as well as a steal. She also drew an ejection on a Poly defender which led to another Bruin goal, leaving Wilson in the pole position for this year’s league crown.

Adolfo Thomas, Long Beach Poly Basketball

He’s not his team’s leading scorer nor its tallest player, but Long Beach Poly senior Adolfo Thomas embraced his “glue guy” role against Compton. Thomas scored two points, had two blocks, two assists and a steal, but he led Poly with 12 rebounds. His four offensive boards in the first quarter helped push Poly to a big lead early, which they never relinquished.

COLLEGE

Temidayo Yussuf, Long Beach State Basketball

“Temi” once again Long Beach State in scoring last week against Pepperdine, putting up 21 points and 11 rebounds against the Waves. Long Beach State won the game, not just because of Yussuf’s scoring but because he dropped a pass to KJ Byers with five seconds left, giving Byers an easy path to scoring the game-winning dunk.
