Long Beach Football Playoff Scenarios

With just one week of football left, here’s where things stand.

1: Long Beach Poly has clinched another undefeated Moore League championship after a big win over Lakewood. The Jackrabbits have a bye in the final week of the regular season and will await the playoff brackets being released next Sunday.

2: Millikan has clinched second place and an automatic playoff berth with their win over Wilson. With a 4-1 league record they are two games up on everyone else for second place with only one week left to play. The Rams finish next week on the road at Jordan.

3: The Moore League’s third and final playoff spot is open to three teams: Wilson, Lakewood, and Compton.

Only Wilson controls its own destiny: if the Bruins beat Compton next week at home, they’d clinch third place outright and own an automatic berth into the playoffs. If Compton beats Wilson, the two teams would be tied for third place with identical 3-3 records; in that scenario the Tarbabes would own the head-to-head tiebreaker. If Lakewood defeats Cabrillo and Compton defeats Wilson, it would create a three-way tie for third place, with an envelope draw to determine who would get the third and final automatic playoff berth out of the Moore League.

So: if you’re a Wilson fan you’re rooting for a win Friday. If you’re a Compton fan you’re rooting for a Compton win over Wilson and a Lakewood loss to Cabrillo, the only way Compton gets in with no tiebreaker. If you’re a Lakewood fan you’re rooting for a Lakewood win and a Compton win to create the three-way tie and keep the Lancers’ tiebreaker chances alive.
