It wasn’t the storybook day that the Long Beach track and field teams were hoping for at the 101st CIF State Championships in Clovis, but the story had a happy ending, as Long Beach Poly and Wilson showed out in the 4x400s to cap a day that saw 15 of the 20 local entries reach the podium.

Lakewood’s Cherish Washington made it to Saturday’s finals in the discus, and finished 10th with a heave of 140-07. Washington, just a sophomore, made the CIF-SS Masters Meet in both the discus and the shot put.
