The Cabrillo football team has won two of its last three games and is trying to start a new era with a win streak this Friday as they host Compton Centennial at 7pm in their first-ever Hub City League contest. The Jags (2-4) had a bye last week so will try to start of their Hub City League journey with a win against the Apaches (5-2).

HSRatings.com predicts the Jaguars will win the game 41-28. If they do end up prevailing, it would be the Jags’ first time reaching three wins in a season since 2016, when they went 4-6.

The Jags’ success this year has come from a high-powered offense, which put up 58 points against Jordan last game, 21 points in a loss to Marina, and 35 points in a win over Maywood CES. The Jags are led by senior QB Fernando Leanos, who has nearly 1,300 yards passing and nine touchdowns already this year. Receivers Anthony McKinney and Stephen Walker both have four receiving touchdowns already while Danny Lopez and Armon Lumpkin combine for 500+ receiving yards as well.

Centennial comes in fresh off a win over Compton Early College last week, 51-0. The team’s leader has been Magic Haynes, an Arizona State-committed defensive lineman that the Jags will have to account for on every play. The Apaches will have a bye after this week before hosting Compton on Oct. 23. Cabrillo will travel to face Compton next week.
