PREVIEW: Compton at Compton Early College, Football

The562’s football coverage for the 2026-27 school year is sponsored by Long Beach Poly alums Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Jr. & Tyson Ruffins.

C-High appears to be the favorites in year one of the Hub City League, with last Friday’s 30-6 win over Dominguez setting them on a good path.

The Tarbabes will be on the road this week, visiting Compton Early College for a 7 p.m. game on Friday night.

Compton is 6-1 on the season and will hit the road to face CEC for the first time ever. A big game from Edward Rivera last week helped Compton bounce back from its only loss of the season against Wilson, and there’s no reason to believe the senior playmaker will let up this week.

Compton Early College (2-5, 0-1) traveled to Compton Centennial last week and suffered a 51-0 loss, marking its third shutout loss of the season. On the bright side, The Rising Phoenix are 2-1 at home this year, with wins over West Adams and Locke, but Compton brings in a much higher level of talent than those teams.

A victory for Compton would give them seven wins on the season, which would match the program’s highest total since 2007. The last time the Tarbabes won seven games was in 2021, when they made a run to the CIF-SS finals.
