Football: Compton’s Edward Rivera Scores Four Touchdowns In Win Over Orange Vista

The562’s football coverage for the 2026-27 school year is sponsored by Long Beach Poly alums Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Jr. & Tyson Ruffins.

Before the season, Compton senior Edward Rivera said that he was excited to showcase his versatility in his final high school season.

After a quiet season opener, Rivera had a touchdown party on Thursday night – scoring four touchdowns as Compton rolled to an early lead and didn’t look back as they defeated Orange Vista, 28-21.

Compton (2-0) found itself in a defensive battle early on as the game was scoreless after the first quarter, but Rivera’s first touchdown came on a pass from Donnie Johnson III that gave the Tarbabes a 7-0 lead at halftime.

Senior Jay’Rome Norwood came up with an interception to start the third quarter, and Rivera got loose for another touchdown to give Compton a 14-0 lead with 10:22 remaining in the third.

Rivera wasn’t done there as two more stops led to two more touchdowns for Rivera. His fourth came on a 80-yard punt return to give the senior a receiving, rushing and special teams score on the night.

Trailing 28-0 in the fourth quarter and Compton’s reserves in, Orange Vista (1-1) scored on three straight stops that turned into 21-0 run for the Coyotes – but that’d be it as Compton held on for the win.

Compton will be back home next Friday when they take on Bishop Alemany for their home opener.
