Once again, Long Beach is sending one of its own to the Midsummer Classic as Milwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Megill was selected as a National League All-Star in 2025.
The 31-year-old righthander was born in Long Beach and was a 7th Round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Loyola Marymount. He is now in his fifth season in the big leagues and third in Milwaukee, where he’s having a standout year at the back end of the bullpen.
Megill has already matched his save total from last season with 21 saves through his first 36 appearances for the Brew Crew, posting a 2.41 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched.
After making his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2021, Megill pitched for the Minnesota Twins in 2022 and a trade in early 2023 eventually brought him to Milwaukee. Since arriving with the Brewers, Megill has worked his way from bullpen arm to setup man and now to the full-time closer.
He’s on pace to record career highs in appearances, innings pitched, saves, and strikeouts, and added a coveted milestone to his season with his first career All-Star Game selection.
Megill joins a long list of MLB All-Stars with ties to Long Beach, and follows Long Beach State alum Jarren Duran, who won All-Star Game MVP last year.
Dating back to 1989, only three times has an All-Star Game lacked a representative from Long Beach, and the city has produced 46 All-Star selections across those 36 games. The last pitcher out of Long Beach to earn an All-Star Game nod was Long Beach State’s Jason Vargas, who made the 2017 All-Star Team.
Megill is one of three Milwaukee Brewers to earn an All-Star Game nod this season, along with starting pitchers Freddy Peralta and rookie Jacob MIsiorowski.
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is Tuesday night at Truist Park in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT and the game will be televised live on FOX.
