HIGH SCHOOL

Ariel Willard, Compton Flag Football

The Compton Tarbabes are off to a perfect 16-0 start, claiming wins over Compton Early College and Dominguez in the last week. In Compton’s 32-0 shutout against Compton Early College, Ariel Willard had three interceptions and a touchdown in the big win. 

Hector Diaz, Millikan Cross Country

Millikan Boys’ Cross Country claimed a team win at Heartwell Park, with all seven Rams finishing in the Top 12. Hector Diaz earned his first varsity gold, crossing the finish line in a time of 15:23. 

Audrey Buckley, Wilson Cross Country

Audrey Buckley claimed her first varsity gold at the Heartwell Park Cross Country meet. Buckley’s time of 17:42 led the Wilson Bruins to a team win on the girls’ side.

Kyle Harris, Wilson Football

Wilson kicked off Moore League play with an opening win over Jordan. Junior Kyle Harris sparked the 35-8 win with three touchdowns all in the first half — one on a punt return and two as a receiver.

Trevor Scott, Long Beach Poly Football

Trevor Scott has a strong debut for the Jackrabbits on Friday night. The sophomore was 15/20 with 289 yards and five touchdowns in the 55-0 shutout against Lakewood. 

Edward Rivera, Compton Football

Compton got back on track with an inaugural Hub City League opening win vs Dominguez. Edward Rivera was going to work for the Tarbabes, racking up 208 rushing yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns in the 30-6 win. 

Nina Fife
Nina Fife is a junior at Pepperdine University double majoring in Journalism and English with a writing and rhetoric emphasis. She began working with The562 in the inaugural intern class before being hired as their Social Media Director and now Assistant Editor. Nina is a proud Long Beach schools alum who graduated with valedictorian honors.
