PREVIEW: St. Anthony vs. Bishop Alemany, Football

The562’s football coverage for the 2026-27 school year is sponsored by Long Beach Poly alums Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Jr. & Tyson Ruffins.

St. Anthony has had a lopsided 2026 season so far, suffering a slew of tough losses amounting to an 0-5 record so far. The Saints are back in action under Friday Night Lights, where they’ll host Bishop Alemany in search of their first win of the season as they head into Del Rey League play.

It has been a rough start for St. Anthony, most recently suffering a 22-point loss to Rio Hondo Prep in a 42-20 defeat last week. Despite the result, the Saints had promising pockets of light across the field.

In their contest against the Kares, senior running back Evan Martinez had 167 rushing yards on 25 carries, according to MaxPreps. Martinez was supported by quarterback Aidan Jones, who threw two touchdowns on 109 yards in the game. Jones was finding sophomore Juice Smith, who had a touchdown to go with three catches and 58 yards.

This trio will be a key piece in St. Anthony’s hunt for success. Jones and Martinez are two of the team’s senior leaders, bringing years of experience to the Saints’ offense. Smith came into the 2026 season as a key underclassmen, stepping up as a key weapon for St. Anthony.

Bishop Alemany is coming into Friday night with a 2-3 record off back-to-back wins. The past two results have put the Warriors’ offensive strength on full display, scoring 40 and 48 points, respectively.

This offensive power has been a big turn around for Bishop Alemany. Through their first three games, which resulted in losses, the Warriors scored a total of 61 points. In their past two games, where Bishop Alemany has picked up a pair of wins, the Warriors have put 88 points on the board.

Friday will mark the first meeting between St. Anthony and Bishop Alemany, as the Warriors start their first season in the Del Rey League. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Clark Field.
