The 710 Rivalry will be renewed on Friday night in J-Town, as the Jordan Panthers are finally back home to take on the Cabrillo Jaguars at 7pm.
Jordan (0-5) has been away from home for more than a month, playing four away games in a row after opening the season at home against Compton on Aug. 20. It’s been a tough road for the Panthers as they’ve gone up against a formidable schedule. Jordan’s opponents have combined for a 22-2 overall record this season.
J-Town suffered a lopsided defeat at 4-0 Charter Oak last Friday night, and a return to Long Beach might be just what the doctor ordered for head coach Rashaad Penny and company.
The Panthers have won five in a row against their former league rivals, including a 54-19 win at Jaguar Stadium to conclude last season. On paper, this appears to be Jordan’s best shot at a win this year before Moore League play gets going next week.
On the other sideline, Cabrillo (1-4) has shown some growth over the course of the season. After an impressive 35-0 victory over Maywood, the Jags battled with Marina in a 42-21 loss last Friday night.
The Jags offense will look to keep that momentum against a Jordan defense that’s allowed 40+ points in all but one game this season facing tough competition.
Cabrillo’s last win against Jordan was in 2019–a 20-14 victory in North Long Beach which gave the Jags a three-game winning streak over the Panthers.
