The Millikan football team is looking for a reset after a tough start to the 2026 season when it hosts Capistrano Valley on Friday night.
Last week, the Rams (0-3) dropped their road contest 39-10 against Downey – a game that was plagued with five personal fouls called on five of the last seven plays leading to the game being stopped by the referees with more than seven minutes on the clock.
It was a frustrating loss, but there were some bright spots for the Rams who saw the emergence of Garrett McLeod, who was added to the roster before the Downey game.
McLeod filled in well for Jonah Tuaniga, who was dealing with an injury. McLeod tossed a touchdown pass to Jay Williams and proved he could keep the offense moving.
There will be some questions in the backfield for the Rams after Ryan Carter left the game in an ambulance after a scary injury – but was released from the hospital the same night.
But, the Rams have proven guys in the trenches and will need to lean on that experience to help control the sticks.
Capistrano Valley (3-0) has started the season unbeaten including a 33-23 win over Downey in week two.
The Cougars are a balanced team offensively amassing 574 yards in the air and 585 yards on the ground.
Senior Talon Spencer has been an efficient passer completing 52-of-79 passes for 572 yards and seven touchdowns. Spencer is also a threat with his legs as the teams leading rusher with 320 yards and five touchdowns.
His favorite targets through the air have been Colin Hooper, Izaiah Bennett and Cartyr Quartucy who each have over 100 yards and nine or more catches.
The Cougars’ defense has given up 25 points per game over the last week and will be an area the Rams look to expose.
The two teams are set to face off at 7 p.m. at Dehaven Stadium.
