Every sports season features dozens of great plays and exciting finishes, but what really sets a game apart is an unforgettable moment that won’t soon be replicated.

As if the annual football game between Long Beach Poly and Millikan needed any more hype or excitement, it got just that this past fall when Grammy Award-winning DJ and music producer, Mustard, stopped by Veterans Memorial Stadium for a special halftime performance.

Between the lines, the Jackrabbits and Rams played a terrific game of football in its own right, with Poly holding on for a 24-22 victory. The Jackrabbits led 24-3 midway through the third quarter, but Millikan was able to storm back and had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes.

However, the Rams’ two-point conversion attempt was broken up by Poly’s Deon Jackson, allowing the Jackrabbits to close out the win.

Due to the extra incentive of Mustard’s halftime performance, both teams got to play in front of one of the better Moore League crowds in recent memory, with an estimated attendance of more than 6,000.

High School Football: Long Beach Poly vs. Millikan

Long Beach Poly hosted Millikan for an exciting rivalry showdown at Veterans Memorial Stadium, with a special halftime performance by DJ Mustard.

At the half, both student sections were able to assemble on the track in front of the stands, getting an up-close view of Mustard’s performance from just in front of the DJ booth. Clips of his performance flooded social media as both schools got to enjoy a unique experience side-by-side.

That set the stage for a thrilling second half, which included a valiant effort from running back Samson Khan, who had over 150 total yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns for the Rams.

Despite the close finish, which added another exciting chapter to the recent Poly-Millikan rivalry, surely that night will be remembered for its halftime show, just as much as the show on the field.
