Long Beach Poly freshman Brayden Ogawa won the CIF Southern Section Division 1 diving championship earlier in May, edging teammate and fellow freshman Romeo Lobedecis, who took second place. Ogawa scored an even 502.00 in the finals round while Lobedecis scored 484.55.

The top-podium sweep for the Jackrabbits was impressive especially given how young both divers are.

“We’re really excited for them and for the future,” said Poly aquatics coach Ish Pluton.

Jackrabbit junior Lorealle Lobedecis took fifth place in the girls’ Division 1 finals with a score of 465.65. Millikan’s Avery Rencher competed in the Division 2 finals and finished fifth with a score of 416.50.

Ogawa went on to compete at the World Junior Diving Championship Trials in Florida; Ogawa competed up in the 16-18 division and secured a 12th place finish on the 3m springboard representing McCormick Divers.
