HIGH SCHOOL

Daunte Bell, Millikan Baseball

Daunte Bell continued his pitching dominance in Millikan’s CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinal against Summit. The southpaw threw a complete game shutout in the gutsy 1-0 win.

AJ Nonato, Millikan Baseball

Sophomore AJ Nonato has been key in Millikan’s playoff success and was a big part of their CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinal win. Nonato started the Rams’ go-ahead rally in the 5th with a leadoff single and made three incredible plays on defense in the final two innings to secure the victory.

Cooper George, Wilson Baseball

Cooper George is Wilson’s ace and proved why in the Bruins’ CIF-SS Division 5 quarterfinal win. George went the distance in a complete game performance where he totaled up 11 strikeouts in the 6-1 victory against Temescal Canyon.

James Mirable, Wilson Baseball

The Wilson Bruins got a dominant 6-1 win vs. Temescal Canyon in their CIF-SS Division 5 quarterfinal, and senior James Mirable helped fuel his team on offense. Mirable was 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of runs to contribute to the victory.

Xavier Nunez, Lakewood Baseball

Xavier Nunez delivered on both sides of the ball for the Lancers in their CIF-SS Division 6 quarterfinal win. Nunez held the game down through four solid innings on the mound, also going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs in Lakewood’s hard-fought 5-3 win over Muir.

Nick Gallegos, Lakewood Baseball

The Lakewood Lancers beat the John Muir Mustangs in a head-to-head battle for the CIF-SS Division 6 quarterfinal matchup. The Lancers relied on their entire team to pull off the 5-3 win, and Nick Gallegos did his part going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

COLLEGE

Steen Zeman, CSULB Men’s Golf

Steen Zeman finished in a Top 5 spot at the NCAA Columbus Regional to earn an Individual spot in the NCAA Championships. Zeman will be just the second Beach representative to play in the NCAA Championship in the modern format, securing his spot on a 3-under par 68 and final round of 74. 

Elisa Portillo, CSULB Women’s Water Polo

Senior Elisa Portillo had a historical season for Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo and was honored for it this week. Portillo led the Beach with 74 goals, 54 assists, 40 steals and seven blocks in her final season with the Beach, earning her third All-American selection after being named to the Second Team.

Nina Fife
Nina Fife is a junior at Pepperdine University double majoring in Journalism and English with a writing and rhetoric emphasis. She began working with The562 in the inaugural intern class before being hired as their Social Media Director and now Assistant Editor. Nina is a proud Long Beach schools alum who graduated with valedictorian honors.
