The Wilson Bruins’ baseball season rolls on. The Bruins (18-12) went on the road for a second-round CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoff game, and defeated Jurupa Hills 2-1 in a thriller.
Wilson will now host Temescal Canyon on Friday in the quarterfinals, looking to advance to a semifinal next week against the winner of Culver City and St. Bernard.
Wilson gave up just one run thanks to a quality start from Shane Guy, who yielded one run in three innings pitching as the Bruins’ starter, on an RBI hit from catcher Ivan Farner. Cesar Castro came in to relieve Guy, yielding three hits and no runs over the final four innings of the game.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the first, the Bruins quickly bounced back to tie the game in the top of the second, thanks to some quality base running from center fielder Eddie Becker. After being hit by a pitch to start the inning, Becker was sacrificed over by Castro, then advanced to third and scored on a passed ball to tie the game.
In the top of the third, Cooper George doubled with two outs, and then was driven in by a single through the left side from Russell Centanni.
