HIGH SCHOOL

Jayla Cortes, Millikan Girls’ Soccer

The Millikan Rams just made history with a CIF-SS DII championship, and Jayla Cortes was a huge part of the victory. The sophomore netted the only goal in the match, scoring in the difference maker in the fifth minute to seal the 1-0 win.

Jaxson Danell, Wilson Boys’ Lacrosse

Moore League lacrosse season is getting underway, and the Wilson Bruins are already making some noise. Jaxson Danell scored a hat trick in Wilson’s 9-0 win over Lakewood.

Cash Riordan, Wilson Boys’ Lacrosse

The Wilson Bruins opened up their Moore League boys’ lacrosse season in dominant fashion. In a 9-0 shutout against the Lakewood Lancers, Cash Riordan recorded a hat trick to help secure the win.

Megan Ligenza, Wilson Girls’ Lacrosse

The Wilson girls’ lacrosse team started their Moore League season off with a big win against Lakewood. Megan Ligenza scored four goals in the 16-1 win.

Amelia Nulty, Wilson Girls’ Lacrosse

Amelia Nulty came out strong in Wilson’s Moore League opener against the Lakewood Lancers. She scored four goals as the Bruins started their season out with a dominant victory.

Ashley Wafer, Lakewood Girls’ Wrestling

Lakewood’s Ashley Wafer has had a historic high school wrestling career. She capped it off with a personal best third-place finish, taking the bronze medal at the CIF State Wrestling Championship in the 235-pound bracket.

Berlynn Solia-Tago, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Wrestling

Long Beach Poly’s Berlynn Solia-Tago made program history at the CIF State Wrestling Championships. She was one of two Jackrabbits to place at state, finishing fourth in the 170-pound bracket.

Selieni Paseka, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Wrestling

Selieni Paseka joined Solia-Tago as one of the first wrestlers in Jackrabbits’ history to podium. Paseka took sixth place in the 190-pound bracket at the CIF State Wrestling Championships. 

Nina Fife
Nina Fife is a junior at Pepperdine University double majoring in Journalism and English with a writing and rhetoric emphasis. She began working with The562 in the inaugural intern class before being hired as their Social Media Director and now Assistant Editor. Nina is a proud Long Beach schools alum who graduated with valedictorian honors.
