Just a few days after copper thieves hit the Long Beach Little League fields at Stearns Champions Park, there’s good news to report. The City of Long Beach’s parks and recreation department leapt into action on Monday and got nine of the 10 light poles that had been vandalized fixed that day.
“Thank you to the City of Long Beach for acting swiftly,” said Long Beach Little League president Doug Wittman. “Our league was able to resume their practices and not skip a beat.”
Wittman said the league has had a great partnership with the city and that everyone was grateful to see everything fixed so quickly. With games approaching in three weeks, the possibility had been looming of delaying practices and trimming games. Thanks to the speedy response, kids were back on the field for night practices Monday.
