HIGH SCHOOL
Ethan Weinman, Millikan Boys’ Soccer
The reigning Moore League champs secured a huge win this week over the Lakewood Lancers. Ethan Weinman scored the game winner for the Millikan Rams in their 2-1 win.
Janiah Lorn, Jordan Girls’ Basketball
The Jordan Panthers got a long-awaited win over the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits thanks to some help from their senior point guard. Janiah Lorn scored a game-high 12 points in the 30-23 win.
Jeremiah Hunt, Millikan Boys’ Basketball
Jeremiah Hunt had a huge week for Millikan. In the Rams’ 81-50 win against Cabrillo, Hunt notched a game-high 24 points. Later in the week, the Rams took sole possession of first place after they beat the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits behind another big game from Hunt, who scored a game-high 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Bella Salley-Najjarian, Wilson Girls’ Water Polo
Bella Salley-Najjarian had a huge second quarter in Wilson’s game against Long Beach Poly. She scored a game-high five goals in this quarter to secure a dominant 23-5 win for the Bruins over their rivals.
Alexandra Rios, Millikan Girls’ Soccer
The Rams moved to 7-0 in Moore League play behind a 1-0 win against Wilson. Alexandra “Furby” Rios scored the difference maker to lead her team to the victory.
Sammy Timu, Long Beach Poly Boys’ Wrestling
Sammy Timu came up big for the Jackrabbits in their sweep of Millikan. The sophomore delivered a decisive pin in the final match to give Poly just enough for the 35-34 win.
Tiwan Jones, Lakewood Football
Tiwan Jones secured one last Athlete of the Week honor as a Lakewood Lancer. Jones was named MVP of the 605 All-Star Game with over 100 receiving yards, a TD, an interception, multiple PBUs on defense and a long kickoff return.
Michael Gutierrez, Lakewood Boys’ Soccer
Lakewood picked up a key win over Wilson this week in Moore League boys’ soccer action. Senior Michael Gutierrez scored the lone goal of the game in the Lancers’ 1-0 win.
