The562’s coverage of Long Beach Poly Athletics for the 2025-26 school year is sponsored by Former Jackrabbits Wendell “WoWo” Moe, Jr. & Tyson Ruffins.
Long Beach Poly alum Jack Jones is receiving a rare honor: his jersey has gone on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Jones, a star defensive back for the Miami Dolphins, had an interception in overtime as part of the Dolphins’ win over the Commanders in Madrid, Spain. Jones intercepted the Commanders’ first pass of the overtime period which set up a 29-yard game-winning field goal by Riley Patterson.
Jones’ jersey has gone on display in the “Pro Football Today” gallery at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, where it will remain for the next year. Jones’ jersey was part of a three-item acquisition by the Hall of Fame alongside a jersey worn by Myles Garrett during a recent four-sack game as well as gloves worn by Khalil Mack during a recent game where he recorded his 35th career sack with the Chargers. Mack became the first player in NFL history to record 35 or more sacks with three different NFL teams.
Jones’ jersey was acquired because of a longstanding Hall of Fame tradition: they always select and display a game-used item when the NFL debuts in a new city, a practice that dates back to 1976 with a Chargers and Cardinals preseason game in Japan. Jones’ Dolphins planted a new flag for the NFL this year with their game in Spain.
The Poly alum is in his fourth NFL season after a college career that saw him play for USC and Arizona State; he’s previously played with the Patriots and Raiders before landing with the Dolphins this season. Jones has eight career interceptions including four returned for touchdowns.
Jones’ jersey going on display at the Hall of Fame is just the latest chapter in Poly’s longstanding history with the NFL. The Jackrabbits have produced more than 80 NFL players, more than any other high school in the nation. To date, there are no Long Beach products inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, however.
