The reigning Moore League champions are off to a strong start to the 2025-26 boys’ soccer season, as the Millikan Rams (4-1) recently made it all the way to the championship match of the Huntington Beach Tournament, taking on a challenging field to reach the final.

The Rams scored three times in each of their first three contests of the season to advance through group play. Millikan beat Schurr 3-1, then blanked Marina 3-0 and finally took down Hamilton High from Arizona by a 3-1 margin.

In the tournament semifinals against host Huntington Beach, the Rams finished in a 1-1 tie against the Oilers, eventually advancing on PKs.

That brought Millikan to the championship match against Fountain Valley, where a 2-2 score again put the Rams into a PK shootout, only this time they came up short for their only loss of the campaign.

During the five-match tournament run, sophomore Grant Johnson led the way with five goals and an assist to help spearhead a potent Millikan attack. The Rams averaged 2.5 goals per game against quality competition as they prepare to defend their Moore League crown.

“I’m really proud of this group, making it to the finals of this prestigious tournament in back-to-back seasons,” said Millikan head coach Jeff Schofield. “There are a lot of games in a row and we know we are always missing some guys still playing club. So it is really a team effort and an opportunity to see a lot of guys in game action. It’s early in the year, so a great chance to see our strengths and weaknesses as we head into the season. I’m Impressed with our intensity, work ethic, and ability to score goals.  Averaging just under 2.5 goals a game against quality competition is a confidence boost that we can carry into the rest of the season.”

The Rams continue their non-league schedule against Segerstrom on Wednesday evening and travel for an exciting clash with Warren on Friday evening.

Millikan has the first bye of the Moore League season, so they will not face a league opponent until after Winter Break when they travel to play Wilson on Jan. 5.
