Moore League play continues on the Westside this week, where either Cabrillo or Compton will pick up its first league win when the two teams face off Friday at 7pm.
Cabrillo (1-4) defeated Compton (2-3) in a 21-13 win last season for its first Moore League win since 2019. Before last year, Cabrillo hadn’t beat Compton since 2016.
The Tarbabes started the season strong with a pair of wins against Rancho Dominguez and Centennial, and have relied on a heavy dose of their run game led by junior running back Nate Willard. Willard leads the team with 517 total rushing yards (103.4 per game) with a team-high five touchdowns.
Trevon Fair has been in at quarterback and running back with over 100 rushing yards per game and four total touchdowns. He also threw one touchdown this season while Jaelyn Baker-Nelson and Jay’rome Norwood have each caught a score.
Cabrillo had a couple spurts of success against Millikan last week including a handful of nice passes from QB Fernando Leanos to Zyaire Hughes. Freshman defensive back Armon Lumpkin also had a highlight on defense with an interception in the fourth quarter.
MaxPreps ranks Compton as the No. 685 team in the state while Cabrillo is at 918.
