One of Southern California’s most fun rivalries renews tonight at John Ford Stadium at Lakewood High, as the Lancers host Mayfair with the Milk Bucket Trophy on the line. The two Lakewood high schools were once separated by dairy farms, so they’ve been playing for one of the nation’s most unique rivalry trophies for the last 63 years, since 1962.
Lakewood (2-1) is looking for their first win in the rivalry series in the last seven tries as the Monsoons have been ascendant. Mayfair is 0-3 this year, however, looking for their first win of the season after losses to Yorba Linda, Bullard, and Las Vegas.
The Lancers are led both passing and rushing by QB Kade Casillas, who will look to captain a Lakewood win that would snap Mayfair’s streak in the rivalry game. Kenny Niumatavaelu is Lakewood’s leading receiver with 66 yards per game.
