PREVIEW: St. Anthony vs. Summit, Football

The562’s coverage of St. Anthony athletics is sponsored by Jane & B.I. Mais, Class of 1948.

St. Anthony is still looking for their first win of the season – and they’ll continue that search on Friday night. The Saints will have their home opener tomorrow where they will host the Summit SkyHawks.

St. Anthony has had a rough start this year. After losing their season opener 35-14, they couldn’t bounce back against Torrance and suffered a 45-7 loss.

Summit is also coming off a loss last week, where they dropped a 41-14 game at Beaumont. But, the SkyHawks have seen some early season success after winning their first two games of the fall.

Aidan Jones will still be one of the key players for the Saints. Despite the early losses, Jones has been trying to find his opening. He earned Offensive Player of the Game honors last week after Torrance.

Running back Preston Hochman will try to break through Summit’s defense to help Jones on the offensive side of things. Hochman was named the Most Valuable Player of the Game vs. Torrance last week.

With Jones controlling the offense through the air, Hochman can help the ground game to help the Saints find a breakthrough this season.

However, the SkyHawks’ defense will put up a fight against St. Anthony. Junior defensive back Gavin Rister has 23 tackles and is backed by senior John Valadez and sophomore linebacker Izaiah Hernandez who are controlling the sacks for Summit.

The Saints lost to the SkyHawks 13-9 last year but will look to flip the script this year. Game time is set for 7pm.
