The St. Anthony Saints will be on the road again as they seek out their first win of the 2025-26 season. After suffering a tough local loss at Lakewood last week, the Saints will travel to Torrance for this week’s match up.
St. Anthony is striving for a victory, especially after their season ended with a CIF Championship game loss last year. Second-year Head Coach Jeff Magdaleno wants to bring even more success to his program this year.
The Saints will rely on their returners to help lead the way for this season’s success, which they hope to get started this Friday. One of these key players will be junior quarterback Aidan Jones.
“He’s a coach on the field,” Magdaleno said of Jones. “He’s got the keys to the car and he has full control. He’s going to be able to control the pace and we will go as far as he takes us.”
Jones got off to a good start when they opened up against the Lancers last week, turning the Saints’ opening possession into a touchdown on a pass to tight end Diego Hernandez. However, the junior will look to lead his team to a win this time around.
Torrance, on the other hand, is already feeling good about this season. They’re currently sitting 2-0 with a 37-13 win over San Pedro and a 30-12 victory against West.
Junior quarterback Gibson Turner has shown up in these games, as he’s already notched 522 passing yards through the first two match ups. He’s been able to find senior Kaeson Pressley and junior Elias Emerson through the air, who have 197 and 188 receiving yards, respectively.
Capping off the strong offense is running back Vaughn Reinert. The junior has rushed for 216 yards through the first two games of the season. Reinert has scored four TDs while Pressley has scored three, making them strong threats for the Tartars’ offense.
St. Anthony fell to Torrance last year in a 28-7 final score. The Saints will look to avenge this loss and get their first win of the season Friday night with kickoff set for 7pm.
