PREVIEW: Jordan Football vs. La Cañada

The562’s coverage of Jordan Athletics is sponsored by former LBUSD superintendent Chris Steinhauser.

Jordan is looking to get their first win of the season this Friday. The Panthers will hit the road to face off against La Canada for a 7pm start time.

After a disappointing 32-24 loss against Crenshaw last week, Jordan will try to shape up and improve on their performance.

“That wasn’t the standard of effort that we want,” Head Coach Alfred Rowe said after last week’s loss. “There were a lot of mental mistakes and I think we beat ourselves tonight, and that’s on me. I need to fix it and we won’t have this problem again.”

The Panthers will look to some of their experienced returners to help bring the team up this week. One of these players will be captain Marcus Williams.

Williams had a good game against Crenshaw with 159 rushing yards, two touchdowns and two catches for 54 yards on the night. The senior will look to carry this momentum into this week vs. the Spartans.

La Canada started the season on the right foot, currently sitting with a winning record of 2-0. Not only did they have two wins, but they dominated their opponents. They kicked off the season with a 52-6 win over La Salle followed by a 42-14 win at Santa Paula.

One of the leaders for the Spartans has been quarterback Joe Bell. Against La Salle, the junior went 7 for 13 with 171 yards and one score alongside rushing for 41 yards and two more scores. He was also a big player vs. Santa Paula where he completed 10 of 11 passes for 79 yards and rushed for 105 yards on four touchdowns.

La Canada will look to improve to 3-0 and stay undefeated on the year when Jordan comes to visit, as the Panthers are hunting for their first win of the season.
