Cabrillo Girls’ Volleyball Preview

The Jaguars return after a sixth-place Moore League finish, with eyes on improvement under fifth-year coach James Moanapukeahi Kainoa.

Kainoa has been a program-builder on the Westside, hosting tournaments and helping push players to become first-generation college students. He’s also run a Summer League at Cabrillo, and said things are looking up for the Jags this year.

“With determination and momentum, the Lady Jags are ready to compete with pride and showcase the best of the Westside,” said Kainoa.

Leaders for the team include senior setter Kyra Tepa, who Kainoa said runs the team’s offense with poise, as well as seniors Sam Rodriguez, Carnijah Kirkland, and Stephanie Escobar. Talented younger players include the versatile Makayla Means and sophomore Evy Gibbs, who Kainoa calls a “rising talent with grit.”
