Stephens Wins All-City Division 2 Championship Against Lindsey

The Stephens Jackrabbits wasted no time Tuesday afternoon in the All-City Division 2 boys’ soccer championship. The Jackrabbits scored a goal in the first minute as they defeated Lindsey 3-1 to claim the title at Long Beach City College.

Bruno Mosqueda was quick on the attack as the seventh grader found the back of the net to put Stephens up 1-0 in the first minute.

Lindsey’s defense did all they could as the Jackrabbits had them on their heels before Dylan Moposita Chavez pushed the lead to 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 23rd minute.

“What made us more special this year was that we were consistent,” Stephens coach Sandy Castillo said. “We were a very consistent team. We didn’t lose any players. In middle school, sometimes you lose players, but I’m just so proud of this team.”

Stephens put the game out of reach early in the second half after Elisandro Mendoza Monroy scored in the 35th minute to make it 3-0.

Lindsey’s Oliver Osorio made sure the Falcons wouldn’t be shut out as he scored late in the second half to cut Stephens lead to 3-1.

“Near the end we got a little tired and got a little sloppy,” Castillo said. “But we were able to come away with the win.”
