HIGH SCHOOL

Benny Lane, St. Anthony Baseball

St. Anthony senior Benny Lane had a pair of solid games for the Saints in wins last week. He pitched five shutout innings against Glenn in a lopsided win, striking out seven and yielding two hits, while going 3-4 at the plate with three runs and three RBIs. In a win over Paramount he had two RBIs and a run scored.

COLLEGE

Myles Dismute, LBCC Baseball

Wilson alum Myles Dismute turned in a gem last week to kick off a series win for the Vikings over Rio Hondo. Dismute pitched six shutout innings, yielding five hits, walking one and striking out six.

Shannon Haddad, Long Beach State Softball

Senior Shannon Haddad was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week after leading the Beach to a pair of victories in the circle in the team’s home tournament, the Louisville Slugger Invitational, last week. She pitched two complete games against Utah Tech and LMU, striking out 11 and yielding just six hits in 14 innings.

Charlie Forster, Long Beach State Golf 

Senior Charlie Forster led Long Beach State to a record-breaking performance at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational. The tournament’s individual champion, Forster was 13-under on his own shooting 64, 68 and 71 as Long Beach State finished 34-under par at Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Mike Guardabascio
An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
