It’s been a unique road for both Wilson and Cabrillo this far into the season, and the two will cross paths on Friday night at Cabrillo with kickoff set for 7pm.
The Jags’ come into the game off of a disappointing blowout loss to Lakewood, but still have encouragement from their win over Compton a week earlier, which marked their first Moore League win since 2019.
Cabrillo has faced some uncertainty this year with multiple canceled and rescheduled games, but they round out their final four games of the season with playoff hopes still in the picture.
“Lots of things to work on… We got to get better in all areas,” said Cabrillo coach Shane Gonzales. “We still have a great opportunity ahead of us to qualify for the playoffs. We just need to take things one game at a time.”
The Bruins are coming off of a huge 49-0 win over Compton, and they’re excited to try and keep momentum rolling with their two recently eligible transfers.
Running back Deuce Weston, a Lawndale transfer, is going on his third start at Wilson and certainly made himself comfortable in the Cardinal and Gold last week with 112 yards and two touchdowns against Compton. Quarterback Elacion Saxton also made his debut last week and scored a touchdown each through the air and on the ground.
Mack Cooper will stay in the mix at QB, and he also threw and ran for a touchdown against Compton. Meanwhile, Maxwell Barbee remains the Bruins biggest threat at wideout, with three catches for 45 yards and two touchdowns last week.
