St. Anthony High recently announced that Jeff Magdaleno has taken over as the new head coach of the Saints football program. Magdaleno inherits a team that went 9-3 last season and won the Del Rey League championship at the newly renovated Clark Field.
Magdaleno brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to St. Anthony, working at both the high school and collegiate levels. His most recent stop was at the University of Nevada, where he served as a defensive analyst.
His primary coaching experience came at his alma mater, the University of La Verne, where he served a number of different roles for the Leopards. His most recent post was as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, and he also served stints working with wide receivers, the offensive line, and worked as both special teams coordinator and defensive coordinator.
This will be Magdaleno’s first head coaching position, but not his first time coaching at the high school level. He’s made stops locally at California HS, Cerritos HS, and Villa Park HS, where he was the offensive coordinator in 2010.
Magdaleno replaces former Saints coach Raul Lara, who accepted the head coaching job at Mater Dei High School. Lara posted a 21-14 record in three seasons with the Saints, including a CIF-SS title game appearance in 2021.
St. Anthony is scheduled to open the 2024 season on Aug. 23 with a home game against Mount Miguel.
