HIGH SCHOOL

Jillene Wetteland, Long Beach Poly Track & Field

Long Beach Poly junior Jill Wetteland won her second CIF-SS individual high jump championship, taking the gold last weekend at the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals with a 5-6 clearance. Wetteland also won the title as a freshman.

Loren Webster, Wilson Track & Field

Wilson junior Loren Webster had a great day at the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals last weekend. She anchored the Bruins’ 4×100 to a third-place finish and a Masters spot, and then easily won the long jump with a leap of 19-07.75. Webster is the state favorite in the long jump.

Jason Parra, Millikan Track & Field

Millikan senior Jason Parra had a record-setting day at the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals. Parra won the 3200 with a Division 1 record time of 8:48.36, and took silver in the 1600 in 4:07.10. He’s the top Masters qualifier in the 3200 and No. 6 in the 1600.

Fiona Lobedecis, Long Beach Poly Diving

Long Beach Poly junior Fiona Lobedecis was the runner-up at the CIF State Diving Finals, setting a new school record in the process with a score of 508.20. Lobedecis’ younger sister Lorealle also made it to state and finished 15th.

Lucas Jue, Long Beach Poly Swim

Long Beach Poly sophomore Lucas Jue took fifth in the state in the 500, wrapping up his strong sophomore season. Jue was third at the CIF-SS Finals in the event.

Sammie Hamilton, Wilson Swim

Sammie Hamilton’s record-setting high school swim career officially came to a close last weekend in the CIF State Finals. The city’s top prep female athlete won an individual state championship in the 500 in her last race as a Bruin.
