HIGH SCHOOL

Lucky Iosua, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Long Beach Poly senior captain Lucky Iosua led an upset win for the Jackrabbits as they took down defending Moore League champion Wilson in five sets. Iosua had a team-high 13 kills, nine digs, and two blocks in the victory.

Aiden DeStouet, Lakewood Baseball

Lakewood pitcher Aiden DeStouet pitched six innings against Cabrillo, striking out eight in a shutout effort. The 9-0 win over the Jaguars also moved longtime Lancers coach Spud O’Neil into No. 2 all-time in the California high school baseball wins list.

COLLEGE

Royce Roberts, LBCC Baseball

LBCC pitcher Royce Roberts pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Rio Hondo last week, striking out four and walking one. Roberts’ gem improved the Vikings to 15-3 on the season and 6-0 in conference, with two series sweeps to open conference play.

Christine Deroos, Long Beach State Volleyball

Deroos improved to 9-1 on the season individually after helping Long Beach State go unbeaten at their own Beach Invitational. The Beach had three wins over ranked opponents, including a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Loyola Marymount.
