HIGH SCHOOL

Alan Gonzalez, Lakewood Soccer

Lakewood forward Alan Gonzalez has been fantastic throughout the postseason and scored the first goal in Lancers’ state playoff history. Gonzalez helped spark his team to their first-ever CIF State victory.

Jonathan Romero, Lakewood Soccer

Jonathan Romero scored the golden goal in the Lancers’ second-round state win to send Lakewood boys’ soccer to the CIF SoCal Regional final, the team’s first state championship appearance.

COLLEGE

Myles Patton, Long Beach State Baseball

Myles Patton got a Friday start and was rock solid for the Dirtbags in a series-opening win, pitching six innings and giving up just two earned runs on five hits, while striking out 13 batters.

Hailey Fune’, Long Beach State Track & Field

Repeating as MPSF Women’s Athlete of the Year, Fune’ scored 20 of Long Beach State’s 86 points on day one of MPSF Championships Feb. 25. She won the pentathlon for the second time by recording a school record 3,889 points. Upon the conclusion of the pentathlon, Fune’ transitioned over to the long jump and the high jump. She went 19-1 1/4 (fourth longest in school history) in the long jump, to finish fourth. She was fourth in the high jump (5-6). She began the day by breaking the school record in 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.30. In the finals of the 60m hurdles, she finished second to teammate Rahni Turner.
