Preview: Signal Hill Cross Country Meet

The562’s cross country and track & field coverage is sponsored by an anonymous donation, in appreciation of Coach Ron Allice.

The second cross country meet of the Moore League season is taking place this evening on Signal Hill. The varsity races will begin at 5 and 5:30 p.m. at Discovery Wells Park.

The Millikan boys won the first cluster meet of the season two weeks ago at El Dorado, led by a record-setting performance by senior Jason Parra. The Notre Dame commit will be looking for his second career victory at Signal Hill after taking gold as a sophomore.

If Parra can drop 12 seconds from last year’s time of 15:51, he could threaten Aaron Durham’s course record of 15:40 set back in 1999.

In the girls’ race, Long Beach Poly was the team winner at El Dorado, but Millikan sophomore Nadia Mejia was the top finisher in the race. Can that success translate to the hilly course or will a Jackrabbit use their familiarity with Signal Hill to take the top spot?

The562 will have live updates from the hill as well as full coverage after the meet.
