PREVIEW: Compton at Compton Centennial, Football

It’s a Hub City rivalry game on Friday at 5 p.m. as Compton High visits Centennial with both teams looking for their first win of the season.

Compton won this matchup 69-0 a season ago, but have a lot of new names on the roster this year. In fact, it was freshman QB Francis Madera who led C-High in yardage last week in the opener. He ran it six times for 40 yards in a 26-10 loss at Dymally, with four players receiving at least six carries in the double wing offense.

In Centennial’s opener, they hosted Dominguez and suffered a 56-6 defeat. Dominguez is not on Compton’s schedule this year, meaning there won’t be a Hub City Championship decided on the field in 2023.

As for the Compton/Centennial matchup, Compton has dominated this rivalry over the past five seasons, going 4-0 by a combined score of 210-0. Centennial’s last win over Compton was a 24-14 win to open the 2015 season.
