HIGH SCHOOL

Xcaret Tirado, Wilson Track & Field

Wilson’s Xcaret Tirado wins a thrilling 800 at the Moore League Finals, out-leaning Poly’s Camille Lindsay to take the 800 crown by .03 seconds. Tirado’s time of 2:18.82 makes her a top ten seed into this week’s CIF-SS prelims as well.

Jai’ya Jones, Lakewood Track & Field

Lakewood hasn’t had a girls’ sprinter win the 100 in decades, but Jai’ya Jones and this Lancers sprints group is special. Jones won the 100 with a time of 12.05 at Moore League Finals last week, and led a Lancer 4×100 that’s seeded No. 8 entering CIF-SS prelims.

Victoria Byrum, Millikan Softball

Millikan senior pitcher Victoria Byrum struck out 13 and only gave up two hits and two walks in a complete-game league championship effort against Lakewood. Byrum led her Rams to their third consecutive league championship.

Colin Geer, Long Beach Poly Swim

Poly had never won a Moore League title in boys’ swimming, until Friday night. Michigan signee Colin Geer won two individual events and anchored two additional relay victories to lead the Jackrabbits to a historic win.

Sammie Hamilton, Wilson Swim

Wilson junior Sammie Hamilton is a special talent, and helped lead her Bruins to another Moore League title last week. Hamilton set two new league records in individual events and led the Bruins to two additional relay wins as well.

Nolan Alvarez, Millikan Tennis

Millikan junior Nolan Alvarez lost the Moore League Final the last two years, but claimed the singles championship this year with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Wilson’s Leo Bauch.

Maura Dark, Wilson Badminton

Wilson’s Maura Dark won the Moore League girls’ badminton singles title last year with a great run to the title. The senior claimed her first singles title with the win.

Abhishek Jain, Wilson Badminton

Abhishek Jain made it a Bruin sweep as he claimed the Moore League boys’ singles title last week in a thrilling run to the title. The junior brought home his first league singles title.

JJ Nielsen, Jordan Baseball

JJ Nielsen had a multi-HR week with a grand slam and a three-run homer for Jordan in a win over Cabrillo, with 7 RBIs in a 15-7 win. Nielsen also tripled against Poly later in the week.
