Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week and thanks to the Long Beach Century Club and Naples Rib Company for their support.

HIGH SCHOOL

Nate Berumen, Long Beach Poly Baseball

It was another walk-off win for Long Beach Poly as they beat Wilson at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field last week. Nate Berumen had the game-tying RBI and then scored the game-winning run on Max Pemberton’s walk-off hit.

Chloe Pravednikov/Kate Eckenrode, Wilson Volleyball

Wilson’s Chloe Pravednikov and Kate Eckenrode took second at the Moore League pairs finals last year, and spent this season dreaming of gold. That dream came true last week as they defeated their teammates in an all-Wilson final, winning the championship 21-17, 21-10.

Cat Calzada, Lakewood Softball

Lakewood won a thriller against Long Beach Poly last week to set up this week’s Moore League championship game against Millikan. The Lancers got the game-winning hit from Cat Calzada to stay knotted up with the Rams ahead of the winner-take-all title tilt.

Ricardo Valencia, Jordan Baseball

Jordan’s Ricardo Valencia had a great week for the Panthers, leading them to a pair of wins with 10 innings pitched, giving up just two runs while going 2-0 as a starter.

COLLEGE

Jasmine Leovao, Long Beach State Golf

Leovao was the individual medalist at the Big West Championship, finishing even par over 54 holes to win the title by three strokes. She set a school record with an opening round of 66 (-6) at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, the lowest round in LBSU history at the Big West Championship in over 40 years of competition.
