HIGH SCHOOL

Jordan Anderson, Millikan Football

Millikan junior Jordan Anderson had a great game for the Rams in their playoff opener blowout. Anderson had two touchdown catches and also a high-point interception on defense.

Zion Smith, Lakewood Football

Lakewood’s Zion Smith helped catapult the Lancers to their first home playoff win since 2010 on Friday. Smith had an interception and a touchdown in the Lakewood win over Hemet.

Jason Parra, Millikan Cross Country

Millikan junior Jason Parra is three for three, as he won his third Moore League individual championship with a near-record time of 14:33 over three miles at Heartwell Park.

Avery Peck, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Long Beach Poly freshman Avery Peck officially stamped her incredible debut season with a Moore League individual championship at Heartwell Park last week, finishing in 18:24.

Hailey Stoskopf, Millikan Golf

Millikan freshman Hailey Stoskopf led the Rams to their first-ever CIF-SS championship. Stoskopf shot a team-best score of 86 to lead Millikan to the win.

Sean Tunnicliff, Wilson Water Polo

Wilson senior Sean Tunnicliff scored a game-high six goals in the Bruins’ first round playoff win last week.

COLLEGE

Summer Laskey, Long Beach State Soccer

Summer Laskey scored the game-winner for Long Beach State in the Beach’s Big West Tournament semifinal win over Cal Poly, which put them in the conference championship game where they lost to Irvine.

An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
