HIGH SCHOOL

Daylen Austin, Long Beach Poly Football

All-American and LSU commit Daylen Austin had two interceptions on Senior Night in a shutout win for the Poly defense. Austin returned one of the picks for a touchdown and had a 70 yard kickoff return as well.

Kaleb Foster, Lakewood Football

Kaleb Foster continues to run the ball well for Lakewood, and the senior had 140 yards on just 12 carries with a pair of TDs to lead the Lancers to the playoffs with a win over Compton last week.

Luke Cassiano, Long Beach Poly Water Polo

Long Beach Poly wrapped up second place in the Moore League with a dominant win over Millikan. The Jackrabbits were led by Luke Cassiano’s six goals, all scored in the first half.

Vanessa Holden, Wilson Tennis

For the second straight year Wilson’s Vanessa Holden played in the Moore League singles finals–this year she got the job done, winning the 2022 singles league title.

Samarah DaCoud, Lakewood Volleyball

Samarah DaCoud had 26 kills and 14 digs in the five-set win for Lakewood in the final match of the Division 1 pool play postseason.

COLLEGE

Lena Silano, Long Beach State Soccer

Lena Silano score both goals in a 2-1 overtime win in the Big West Championship opening round at home against UC Santa Barbara, tying the single-season school record in the process with 16 goals this season.

Riki Moscoso, LBCC Cross Country

Wilson alum Riki Moscoco placed seventh overall on a very difficult course in Palos Verdes at the South Coast Conference Championships to become the first Vikings All-SCC First Team runner in 15 years.  

Ailene Rios, LBCC Cross Country

Poly alum Ailene Rios placed third overall on a very hilly course in Palos Verdes at South Coast Conference Championships marking the first Vikings racer to make the All-SCC First Team since 2016.

He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
