The St. Anthony football team won’t play its regular season finale at St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy on Friday, the school administration announced today.

In an official statement they stated that, “It is with great regret that we inform our St. Anthony community, based on the advice of our administration, athletic trainer, and football coaching staff, that we are unable to safely field a team against St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy on Thursday October 27th, and Friday, October 28th. We hope that you understand that this decision was not made lightly, as we recognize that this is a great inconvenience, and more importantly a great disappointment for many students, staff, and parents of our St. Anthony community. We will continue to monitor the status and health of our student-athletes and make the best decisions possible to help ensure the safety of our team and individual players.”

St. Anthony athletics director Chris Morrison said that if the Saints somehow qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs the health of the team would be reevaluated next week. Playoff brackets will be announced on Sunday morning.
