The562’s coverage of Long Beach Wilson Athletics is sponsored by Joel Bitonio, Class of 2009

Wilson junior Sammie Hamilton is in Israel competing in the Maccabiah Games for Team USA. Competing among 38 countries and thousands of other Jewish athletes, Hamilton has proven herself one of the best young swimmers in the world with an outstanding showing at her first competition representing the USA.

Hamilton competed in six individual events (200, 400, 800, 1500 free as well as the 200 and 400 individual medleys) as well as the USA’s relays, and will be coming home with eight silver medals from her races, as she was a near-constant occupant of the Maccabiah aquatic competition podium last week. Hamilton may not be done yet either, as she’s also competing in the open water swim competitions next week.
