HIGH SCHOOL

Adonia Faumuina/Halie McGinest, Poly Beach Volleyball

Poly’s duo won the first-ever Moore League beach volleyball championship last week by defeating the top duo from Wilson 21-18, 21-18. Faumuina and McGinest were dominant in the serve game as well as at the net.

Leo Pravednikov, Wilson Volleyball

Wilson’s star senior had nine kills, two blocks, and 11 assists in just two sets during the Bruins’ sweep victory over Lakewood. The Bruins senior is a UCSD signee and has been the best boys’ volleyball player in the city for two years running.

Jaelen Knox, Poly Track & Field

The senior sprinter made a statement at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays over the weekend, winning the boys’ 200m while setting a new meet record in a time of 20.85. Knox also had a PR in the 100m with a time of 10.70.

COLLEGE

Jacquelyn Bickar, Long Beach State Softball

The freshman infielder had a stellar weekend offensively while leading the Beach to a sweep of UCSB. Bickar hit .833 with five RBIs in the series, reaching base safely in seven of her eight trips to the plate.

Tyler Hendrickson
Tyler Hendrickson was born and raised in Long Beach, and started covering sports in his hometown in 2010. After five years as a sportswriter, Tyler joined the athletic department at Long Beach State University in 2015. He spent more than four years in the athletic communications department, working primarily with the Dirtbags baseball program. Tyler also co-authored of The History of Long Beach Poly: Scholars & Champions.
