The562.org’s Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week and thanks as always to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

HIGH SCHOOL

Danielle Paulson, Millikan Soccer

Millikan’s senior center back scored the game-winning goal for the Rams in their playoff opener, delivering a flying header off a free kick to put her team on top in the 46th minute. She also helped keep a clean sheet defensively in the 2-0 win.

Anthony Garcia, Wilson Soccer

Garcia scored both goals for Wilson in their playoff opener at Warren last week. Garcia earned and converted a penalty kick in the 15th minute before blasting home the game-winner in the 77th minute to break a 1-1 tie and send the Bruins to the second round.

Elijah Price, St. Anthony Basketball

The senior big man was a force for the Saints as they traveled to Dominguez and squeaked out a 60-57 win in their first game of the CIF-SS Division 1 bracket. Price posted a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

COLLEGE

Colin Slater, Long Beach State Basketball

The Beach picked up an impressive pair of Big West wins last week against top conference rivals Cal State Fullerton and Hawai’i, pushing the team’s win streak to 10 games. Slater has been a huge part of that run, and he averaged a team-best 17.5 points per game during last week’s wins.
