The girls’ water polo season came to an end for Long Beach schools on Saturday as both Wilson and Lakewood dropped playoff games on the road.

Division 1

ML King 7, Wilson 6

The Bruins came up just short in their Division 1 quarterfinal game in the IE. The game was tied 5-5 at halftime and the Wilson offense was unable to solve King’s defense in the second half.

Division 5

Corona Centennial 22, Lakewood 6

The Lancers made school history getting as far as they did, but their season ended in the quarterfinals against the top seed in their bracket.

“I could not be more proud of every member of our team,” said Lakewood head coach Charles Wright. “During a long season of adversity, they overcame and put in max effort every day. The team came so far and I’m not ready for this to be over. This team became our second family.”

Rob Kerr and Wiley Haga contributed to this story.
