High School Football Preview: St. Anthony vs. Salesian

There’s a familiar matchup at Clark Field tonight where St. Anthony is hosting Salesian at 7 p.m. in a Del Rey League clash.

The Saints and Mustangs haven’t played since 2013 in Los Angeles when Salesian won a Santa Fe League game 64-37. That league was reshuffled in 2014, and now these schools are both back in the newly reformed Del Rey League along with Harvard-Westlake, Mary Star of the Sea and La Salle.

St. Anthony coach Mario Morales said that Salesian (1-1) looks, “Really good and well coached” on film. The Mustangs opened the spring season with a 31-0 win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, but were almost double up at Harvard-Westlake last week . Salesian junior quarterback Marcus Martin has used a balanced attack on offense, and the Mustangs defense already has six sacks and five turnovers in two games.

The Saints (1-0) are coming off a 34-7 victory over Mary Star of the Sea. Junior running back Sone Aupiu scored twice and gained 100 yards on 15 carries while the St. Anthony defense dominated the Mary Star of the Sea double wing rushing attack.
