Big West Conference Suspending All Spring Sports

The Big West Conference announced today that it is indefinitely suspending all spring conference and non-conference competition. The decision was made after the cancellation of the basketball tournament, and is effective immediately.

The Long Beach State Dirtbags were flying to New Orleans today for a non-conference series against Tulane. LBSU Athletic Director Andy Fee said they’re planning on flying home tonight.

“We are in uncharted territory,” Fee said. “My gut says this is not ‘three weeks and back to business as usual.’ I wish that was the case but I don’t see it.”

The conference sent out an official statement with the same quote it had about the cancelled basketball tournament, “The main priority of the Big West Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus.”
