Long Beach Sports Calendar March 12-15

Find out where your favorite Long Beach team is playing this week.

THURSDAY

Big West Conference Basketball Tournament, 6 p.m.

LBSU men’s basketball (11-21, 6-10) finished eighth this season and will face top-seed and regular season champion UC Irvine in the first round today, Thursday, at Honda Center. The Beach took down UC Irvine 63-56 at Walter Pyramid in January, but lost to the Anteaters on the road 70-55 last month.

High School Softball, 3:15 p.m.

Long Beach Poly is hosting Lakewood at Joe Rodgers this afternoon in the marquee Moore League matchup. Elsewhere, Wilson is at Compton while Millikan hosts Jordan. The Lancers and Rams will renew their rivalry on Tuesday at Mayfair Park.

Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. No. 3 UC Santa Barbara, 7 p.m.

This is the first of two matches between No. 4 LBSU and the Gauchos. They’ll also play each other in Santa Barbara on Friday night in Big West Conference action.

Long Beach City College vs. Cerritos, 2:30 p.m.

This is the second game of a three-game series this week between the rival Vikings and Falcons. The Vikings swept this series last year.

Long Beach State Softball vs. Boston, 5 p.m.

The Beach is in Fullerton this weekend for four games as part of the Easton Invitational. LBSU will also play Sacramento State, Cal Baptist and Harvard over three days. It’s also the last tournament of the year for the Beach.

High School Boys’ Tennis, 3 p.m.

The second week of Moore League tennis concludes as Poly hosts Jordan, Wilson travels to Cabrillo and Millikan entertains Compton.

Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo vs. Bucknell, 7 p.m.

LBSU is back at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center tonight for another match against Bucknell under the lights. The Beach beat Bucknell 17-14 last weekend at the Wolverine Invite in Michigan.

High School Boys’ Volleyball, 4 p.m.

Poly will try to stay atop the Moore League standings with a match at Compton, while Lakewood hosts Cabrillo and Wilson visits Jordan.

FRIDAY

High School Baseball, 3:30 p.m.

This is the first Moore League doubleheader at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field as Millikan faces Jordan in the first game, and Lakewood takes on Cabrillo in the nightcap. In other action, Wilson is visiting Compton.

Long Beach State Baseball at Tulane, 4:30 p.m.

The No. 12 Dirtbags are on the road in New Orleans this weekend for their first series away from Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. LBSU and Tulane have split their six meetings. The Green Wave (13-2) is also off to a hot start this season. They’ve won seven straight games and took two of three games at Cal State Fullerton last month. None of the Tulane starting pitchers have a loss.

High School Softball

St. Anthony is at the Mira Monte High School Tournament in Bakersfield this weekend. The Saints are undefeated and ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 3.

High School Swimming, 3 p.m.

Moore League action gets underway this afternoon with the top local matchup as Wilson hosts Poly. In other action, Millikan will be at Jordan while Lakewood hosts Cabrillo.

Long Beach City College Volleyball at Santa Barbara, 6 p.m.

The Vikings are on the road looking to extend their winning streak and stay perfect in Western State Conference play. LBCC won a pair of five-set thrillers over Santa Barbara last year.

SATURDAY

Long Beach City College Softball at Bakersfield, 4 p.m.

The Vikings will play a doubleheader at Bakersfield today, where they’ll try to snap their recent losing streak. LBCC will take on Reedley at 2 p.m. before facing host Bakersfield.
